News Briefs 2/12/2024: coffee in a cone, no more RoRo Expo, early career fair
In the news: Galentine's Day, pool discounts, no beer yet, Roscoe Township
For Galentine's Day in Rockton on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, Brent Murray, the owner of the Dairyhaus tells us, "The 'must try' is our first time collab with DeeDee's Main Street Coffee & Decor! We dipped one of our homemade waffle cones in decadent chocolate and Deedee is using it as the CUP for your COFFEE!!! I’m so excited to present this one, exclusively at Deedee’s and only for Galentines!" They call it "coffee in a cone." The party takes place throughout downtown Rockton.
In their January 2024 newsletter, the Stateline Chamber has announced that the Stateline Business Expo will be no more. The event, often called RoRo Expo, held a rich history at Hononegah High School, dating back to the early 90’s. Now the Chamber says, "It's a different world than it was just 5 years ago. Although we have the region's best people, it has become evident that an Expo is no longer a viable way to bring people to our community."
The Chamber also announced a rescheduled date for Pour in the Park OctoBEERfest, which it wants to hold at either Leland Park or Riverside Park in Roscoe. But Roscoe Village President Carol Gustafson tells us that announcement was premature: "No permit given." We regret the error, as no doubt do the many other news outlets who published it.

Shirland School's 2nd Annual Career Day is Feb. 14 in the afternoon. Some eighth graders will even practice doing a job interview.

Academic honors for the fall have not yet been announced for Rock Valley College and Rockford University.
On Roscoe Township's monthly meeting agenda for Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024: approval of office equipment purchase for the Activity Coordinator responsible for booking the township's Community Center, approval of a $25 stipend for Cemetery Committee so their payments match the number of funerals they handle, letting the Historical Society use the Community Center for three hours for a raffle, and approval of expenses to host a meeting of leaders of other townships.
