In the news: Market by Moonlight, retirements, dean's list, food pantry, madrigal dinner
Ten downtown Rockton shops will be open late on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 - at least until 8 p.m. - for Market by Moonlight, so you can shop local even at the last minute.
At the Dec. 12, 2023 Board of Trustees meeting, the Rockton Fire Protection District recognized the retirement of board president Dennis Stien, after 16 years of service. Chief Kirk Wilson says, "Dennis looks forward to enjoying his retirement and soaking some rays in the Florida sun. Thank you Dennis for your strong work ethic and superior fiscal management of the fire district. Your hard work and commitment to the fire district and our community will not be forgotten."
Grant Sawyer of Roscoe is attending Belmont University, two miles from downtown Nashville, Tennessee. He was named to Belmont University's Fall 2023 Dean's List, with a grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
Rockton Police Officer Penny Cure has retired as Hononegah's school resource officer. She served on the police force for 20 years.
Faith Community Church Stateline Campus is holding a drive-through food pantry this Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, from 8-10 a.m or while supplies last. Each family in need will receive one box of food. The church is at 1401 Blackhawk Blvd. in South Beloit.
Faith Lutheran Church in South Beloit is planning an Epiphany Madrigal Dinner, "The Festival of the Three Kings," on Jan. 7, 2024. The cost is $50 per person until Christmas. Call 815-389-1824 or order tickets online.
