On a recent visit to Chicago, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy administered the Oath of Office to 120 new Illinois Postmasters working across the state of Illinois, including Andrew Yerk of Roscoe.

Yerk began his postal career in September 2015 as a City Carrier Assistant in Rockford, a notoriously-overworked part-time post that led to a career position the next year. He became a Customer Service Supervisor for Loves Park in May 2017.

Before joining the USPS, Yerk worked for nine years with commercial divers in the Gulf of Mexico. He graduated from the Divers Institute of Technology in 2006.

Yerk says, "It is a great honor to serve Roscoe as your new Postmaster," and says that under "Delivering For America, the Postal Service’s 10-year plan, we are maintaining universal six-day mail delivery and expanded seven-day package delivery, stabilizing our workforce, and spurring innovation to meet the needs of our modern customers."

“On behalf of the entire Postal Service, I congratulate these new Postmasters on their new roles,” said Postmaster General DeJoy. “Postmasters are important leaders of commerce in their local community, and I know each of these new Postmasters are committed to delivering the reliable service Illinoisans expect and deserve from the Postal Service.”

Over the years, notable postmasters have included Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman, abolitionist John Brown, businessman Conrad Hilton, novelist William Faulkner, and humorist Mark Twain. Walt Disney and Rock Hudson were substitute letter carriers in Chicagoland - similar to Yerk's first job with the Postal Service.
