National Night Out in Roscoe, Village board meeting in Rockton
Part of Main Street Roscoe will be closed Tuesday night for the event.
Tuesday is a busy night in Roscoe and Rockton. Most of the activity is expected on Roscoe's Main Street from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., on August 2, 2022, which is National Night Out.
Hosted by the Roscoe Police, activities at this free community block party for the whole family include games, entertainment, food, prizes, safety demonstrations, music, and a dunk tank. The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department is also sponsoring a car show. Local businesses and organizations will have information tables.
Main Street will be closed in downtown Roscoe between Bridge Street and River Street for the duration of the event.
Supporting your local news costs little. Subscribing is free.
Kids will be able to spend positive time with law enforcement heroes during this evening of family entertainment and good will. National Night Out, always held the first Tuesday in August, has been a summer tradition for 40 years in large and small communities across the nation. It has been described as a "community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie."
Check-in for the car show will begin at 5 p.m. at the east end of Harlem-Roscoe Fire Station No. 1 at 10544 Main St. Bringing music and announcements will be Bill Spires with Hits DJ Cruise Nights and Car Shows. The cost of registration is two cans (at least) of non-perishable canned goods, which will go to our local food pantry. Firefighters Butch Taylor (815-985-4366) and Jenny Anderson (815-623-7867) will handle any questions.
The Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District is also doing National Night Out in a second town on Tuesday night. Before the Roscoe event starts, they will be at Harlem High School in Machesney Park from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. That event is hosted by the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department, Loves Park Police and the Village of Machesney Park, with the help of Harlem-Roscoe's Station No. 2 personnel.
Meanwhile, in downtown Rockton, the village board will be hearing reports and considering some new ordinances:
- 1. Ordinance 2022-19: An Ordinance Amending Video Gaming Terminal Fees
of the Village of Rockton, Illinois - 2. Ordinance 2022-20: An Ordinance of the Village of Rockton, Illinois
Amending Section 92.027 of the Village Code Regarding Garbage
Unless there is any objection, they will also likely approve the purchase of three police vehicles, a 2022 Dodge Durango, a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, and a 2022 Dodge Charger, as well as two slide gates for the village's sewer plant. Amanda McMahon is also expected to be appointed to be the Police Pension Board. And the Rockton Police Association is requesting approval for a special event at Settlers Park, “Blues & BBQ” to be held on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
