National Night Out was established in 1984 to promote camaraderie between community members and police department personnel. The annual event is held in all 50 states on the second Tuesday in August, except for Texas, who celebrate on the second Tuesday of October.

Police departments in Roscoe and South Beloit are inviting families to a party celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. This is a free event featuring games, food, music, a car show, entertainment for children and adults, the opportunity to sit in a fire truck or police car, and the chance to meet their community police officers. Rockton-Roscoe News staff will be participating.

On Main Street Roscoe, between 6 - 9 p.m. near the Harlem-Roscoe Fire station and the Roscoe Police station, first responders are throwing a block party with music, kids games, giveaways, food, vendors, and a car show.

At the South Beloit American Legion between 5 and 7:30 p.m., the South Beloit Police are promising a night of free food, prizes, and community-building.
