Elected officials in Roscoe, Rockton, and South Beloit are meeting on May 5-6, 2025
This week's municipal meeting agendas:
New village trustees are being sworn in on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. In Rockton, David Bennington, Sarah Spradlin-Doerflinger, and Jamin Unger will join the Village board after winning the April 1 election, while trustee Justin York will be appointed. In the Village of Roscoe, John Broda and Dayne Mead will be sworn in. The members of the South Beloit City Council were not up for election.
Because of the April election, each local village will actually hold two consecutive meetings in one night. First, a "sine die" meeting will be held (from the Latin "without a date" set to reconvene). When the meeting adjourns, it marks the end of the previous village administration. Once the new board members are sworn in, another meeting can be held with the new village leaders. Often the "sine die" meeting is a formality. For example, Rockton Mayor John Peterson will end his term as mayor, then immediately begin his new term. He ran unopposed in April.
