Memorial Day in Rockton and Roscoe
Fallen veterans are honored at Rockton and Roscoe cemeteries.
Memorial Day gained popularity after the Civil War, when it was known as Decoration Day. In Roscoe, the Memorial Day parade was canceled for 2022, but a ceremony at Roscoe Cemetery, 5550 Harrison Street will be held at 11:45 a.m. Everyone is invited.
The Rockton Memorial Day parade, organized by Rockton American Legion Post #332, begins at 9:00 a.m. on Blackhawk Blvd. on the south side of the bridge over the Rock River, where veterans lay a wreath into the water, and heads north to the Rockton Township cemetery, with a short ceremony afterward. The parade usually includes the Hononegah High School Band.
At Main Street in Rockton, the parade turns left (west) to N. Center Street, then turns right on N. Center Street heading north to Rockton Road/Union Street, then left again at Rockton Road to West Street, then right (north) on West Street to the Rockton Cemetery.
