This is Mary-Katherine Lindt's first run for a seat on the Talcott Library Board. She is running for a four year term. She is running because "as a lifelong resident and longtime patron of the Talcott Free Library I understand firsthand the positive impact that a good library has on families."
"Now as a wife and mother of three young boys I want to help ensure that our library continues to thrive as a resource for education, creativity, and community engagement. I am passionate about seeing our town and its institutions flourish, and serving on the library board is one way I can contribute," Lindt said.
Lindt's vision is to support the library in using its resources efficiently and effectively to benefit the community. “I believe that the library book collection should reflect the community it serves. In order to accomplish this, communication between the library and its patrons is important.”
I believe programs like STEM education and reading initiatives inspire lifelong learning and curiosity and I would love to see a continued investment in these areas. I am committed to advocating for open communication and community input in library decisions, ensuring it remains a welcoming place for all.”
Lindt has leadership experience as a youth group leader at St. Bridget's and is the owner of “Bakers Equations- Cottage Home Bakery.”
She has a background in both mechanical engineering and business.
“This has given me strong problem solving, data driven decision making and organizational skills that will be valuable in a board setting. My background has given me a strong foundation in critical thinking, and attention to details. I would be honored to bring my skills and passion to the role if elected.”
“My experience in the aerospace industry taught me the importance of efficiency and resource management, skills that also could be translated well to the board responsibilities.”
“As a small business owner I understand budgeting, organization and community engagement, all of which would help me serve effectively on the board.”
Lindt has been involved in her church community as a youth leader. She also supports local events through her business and stays engaged with activities that benefit families and children in Rockton.
Lindt has served as volunteer track coach for Boylan High School.
Lindt has a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from UW-Platteville and worked 10 years at Woodward prior to staying home with her children.
Lindt is married to her husband Michael. They have three young boys.
“Our family enjoys spending time together reading and being active in the community.”
Lindt is a former athlete who competed in the heptathlon event in track and field.
“I have fond memories of going to the Talcott Library as a child and I want to ensure that future generations continue to benefit from its resources and programs. I would like to see the library adapt to the ever changing landscape of the technological world. The library's future should be a place with digital information available 24/7 and spaces that support research and innovation.”
“I am committed to making thoughtful, informed decisions that uphold traditional values and serve the best interests of our community. In recent years the library has occasionally been used to promote divisive political views. I would like to see it refocus on being a welcoming space for everyone and to reflect the values of the community. “
“I would be honored to have the opportunity to give back by serving on the board.
