Meet Dave Benjamin: candidate for Roscoe Township Trustee
Dave Benjamin

Dave Benjamin is running for Roscoe Township Trustee in the April 1 election. Check out all our candidate profiles in our expanded 2025 Election Guide for Roscoe, Rockton, and South Beloit.

Why did you decide to run?

I've been in the community for over 20 years and have been concerned about how our tax dollars were being spent. I checked into the projects that were completed and the projects which were on the boards and felt we needed more fiscal responsibility in office to move the community forward. I checked into who would be on the Republican ticket and was impressed with the team being assembled, so I decided to see if I could be part of their team. I was excited to be welcomed in and to be a part of this amazing group.

Tell us about your background and accomplishments that you bring to the table.

My background began working in the social service field, working directly with community families, schools and the legal system. After I left the social service program that I worked with, I began my own residential construction business which I have been operating for the past 50 years. Accomplishments, other than "assisting" in raising 3 step children and 3 of my own children putting 5 through college and helping my son start his own construction business, I have the experience managing funds, estimating costs for all types of projects and being able to work with many individual subcontractors putting together projects while managing costs and keeping expenses down.

What do you hope to accomplish in this office in the future?

Bottom line, conservative and responsible spending of taxpayer funds for community projects while making sure we get the best quotes and quality workmanship for these projects. I've seen projects in the community that were completed without any fiscal responsibility or concern, thinking that maybe the trustees should have taken more time to dig a little deeper in order to save taxpayer funds.

Why should people vote for you?

Simply, I'm not a politician but am a proud Republican and a concerned citizen of this community who has the background to take a close look at projects and make intelligent decisions on where it's best to spend or not to spend taxpayer funds. I'm also endorsed by Congressman Darin LaHood, Senator Andrew Chesney, Senator Dave Syverson, State Representative John Cabello, State Representative Joe Sosnowski, Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana, Winnebago County Board Chairman Joe Chiarelli, Winnebago County State's Attorney J Hanley, and Winnebago County Board members Brad Lindmark, Ray Thompson, and Jim Webster.
