Mariner Girl Scout Troop holds Gold Award ceremony
Madelaine Archer received the highest award available to Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts.

Senior Mariner Girl Scout 361 member Madelaine Archer received the prestigious Gold Award during a special ceremony held March 9, 2025 at Cross & Crown Lutheran Church in Roscoe, IL. The pin was presented by Mariner Scout leader Louise Glon. The prestigious award is the highest award available to Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts.
To honor the occasion, all of the girls wore the original 1940’s Mariner Girl Scouts uniform.

To receive the award, Madelaine was challenged to create a project that would make the world a better place to live. She created Native Pollinator Curriculum boxes. The boxes include education materials and interactive activities and games for elementary schools. The information teaches students about the ecosystem. Madelaine recently presented boxes to Ledgewood Elementary School in Roscoe.
Madelaine is presently a student at Wesleyan College.
Created in 1934, Mariner Girl Scouts is a smaller program open to girls in grades 8 through 12. The emphasis is on high adventure and outdoor activities. Previously the scouts traveled to Alaska to learn about the culture and worked with villagers and students.
This year Glon is resigning from her leadership position. “I have been involved with Girl Scouts for 53 years as a scout and Mariner Girl Scout leader. I will be turning the leadership duties over to someone else.” Glon said she will continue working with the Mariners Girls Scouts of USA.
