Shirley “Marie” Ross, age 95, of Rice Lake, WI, died Thursday, April 24, 2025 in Rice Lake.
She was born on August 31, 1929 in Friendship, WI to Henry and Emma (White) Dittburner. Her family moved to Birchwood, WI when she was 7 years old after her father sold the farm. Marie grew up on a dairy farm in Birchwood. After graduating from Birchwood High School in 1947, she graduated from beauty school where she worked as a hairdresser for a year. She was married to Gordon Ross in 1948 and they lived in Rockton, Illinois until 1999 and then moved to Rice Lake. Marie was a member of the Eastern Star, First United Methodist Church in Rice Lake and a lifetime member of Rockton Women’s Club.
She is survived by 3 sons, Gregory (Barb) Ross, James (Cheryl) Ross and Scott (Ladell) Ross; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a special friend, Dwane Kamholz; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Ross; her parents, Henry and Emma Dittburner; and 2 sisters, Jamella Nilsen and Shannon Schiellen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, with interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Birchwood, WI. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI 54868.
