Mama Bear’s Dog Treats & Paw Balms are homemade in South Beloit
Tracy Porter says the taste testers for her treats are her two dogs.
Tracy Porter of South Beloit says she was inspired to start Mama Bear’s Dog Treats & Paw Balms LLC because of her own dogs, Wendy and Echo.
"Wendy had been going through some skin issues and Echo had recently been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease," Porter says. "I had taken a canine nutrition class and had been applying what I had learned. By changing what I fed them, I started noticing an improvement in their health. I thought dog treats would be a good place to start. In my neighborhood, there are a lot of families with dogs and when I reached out I received a lot of positive responses."
Porter makes all her products herself. So far, she has created a line of dog treats, paw and skin balms, K9 toothpaste, raw dog food, jerky, and training treats. She will soon have aromatherapy products as well. "My dogs are my taste testers and they enjoy trying the treats I make," she says. She uses human grade ingredients in all her products and adds no preservatives. She explains, "There are so many chemicals added to dog treats that are harmful. I make them in small batches so they are fresh."
Porter says, "I am always trying new recipes but these are on the menu permanently."
