Community librarians honored for all they do

There is a National Librarians Day - it's April 16 - but the Stateline business group elev815 decided to thank our local librarians this week instead. On July 12, members Jim Blevins, Toni Brown, Clyde Grooms and Chuck Gilbert visited the South Beloit, Rockton and Roscoe librarians with a bouquet of flowers for each library, to show appreciation for their contributions to our community in promoting reading for both children and adults. Editor Michael McGinnis was persuaded to serve as master of ceremonies and flower bearer.

elev815 is an organization of Stateline volunteers committed to supporting our businesses, our youth and our community. Last October, they delivered gift baskets to local first responders, with an emphasis on coffee for firefighters and police officers in Roscoe, Rockton, South Beloit, and Machesney Park. They plan to continue that tradition. They are also known for providing scholarships for area students, which are partly funded by the sale of pumpkins. Businesses also sponsor pole trees at Christmas in Roscoe and Rockton.

Librarians at Roscoe's North Suburban Library were busy, but we gathered three for a photo. Not shown: the children's librarian who was conducting a session of Wiggle Giggle Grow!
