John Malcolm Curttright III (1949–2023)

John M. Curttright III, of Rockton, Illinois, was well known for his knowledge and love of music. He truly loved performing and playing his guitar.

John passed away at 9:03 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023 in Javon Bea Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on June 18, 1949. He grew up on the family farm in Rockton, Illinois, attended Rockton schools, and graduated from Hononegah High School, class of 1967.

He was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1971, with a bachelor's degree from the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, majoring in political science.

While he enjoyed talking politics and debating, he truly loved performing and playing his guitar. He was a member of the local musicians union for many years.

John owned and operated John's Guitar Works on Rockton Avenue in Rockton, selling, repairing and teaching since 1988.

Prior to owning his guitar business, he was employed at McKesson Chemical, W.A. Whitney, and White-Sundstrand.

John was a husband, son, brother, uncle, a great uncle and friend.  He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of almost 49 years, his mother, Margaret Curttright, siblings Melinda Woith, Margaret (William) Frye, Charles (Melinda) Curttright, brothers-in-law Raymond (Jackie) Kupiec and Joseph Kupiec, nephew Vincent (Shelly) Curttright, nieces Elizabeth (Jon) Burkholder, Melinda (Nathan) Dawson, Candace (AJ) Foster, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father John Malcolm Curttright, Jr., his brothers John Malcolm Curttright and Matthew Benjamin Curttright.

John's wish was to be cremated with no memorial service. To celebrate John's life, please sing a song, or play a tune, or listen to some vinyl and remember him.
