Jim Moore never met a stranger

James K. (Jim) Moore loved interacting with people whether he knew them or not. He liked nothing better than visiting with family, old and new friends.
Jim was a very active member of the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce. He was a chamber ambassador for many years - a perfect role for him.
Jim and Bonnie lived in Roscoe for 27 years before moving to a senior retirement community in Elgin, Illinois a few years ago. Here they enjoyed making many new friends and becoming involved in community activities.
Jim passed away peacefully at his home in Elgin, IL, on October 17, 2023 with his dearly loved wife by his side. He was 90 years old.
He was born April 11, 1933, to parents Kenneth and Celia (Holmes) Moore in Rockford, IL. He attended Lincoln Park Junior High and Rockford West High School, graduating in 1951.
At age 16, with his parental consent, Jim joined the Illinois National Guard, beginning nine years of military service. He was activated by the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He had careers in banking and in real estate in the Roscoe area.
Jim married Carole Flood in 1951, in Rockford, IL. They had two children, Lynn and Michael.
On April 22, 1988, he married Bonnie (Palmer) Olson in Roscoe, IL.
Jim was proud of his family, and brought sunshine wherever he went. He loved to tell embellished stories about his youth and his childhood dog, Sandy.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Lynn Schermerhorn of Aurora, IL; son Michael (Mary) Moore of Elgin, IL; step-sons Brett (Magali) Olson of Chicago, IL and Brian (Leslie) Olson of Geneva, IL; grandchildren Ryan (Jenna) Schermerhorn of LaGrange, IL, Jennifer (Brian Donovan) Schermerhorn of Naperville, IL, Aramis Olson of 29 Palms, CA, and Kelsey and Alyssa Olson of Geneva, IL; brothers-in-law Arther Lee Palmer of Richmond, CA and George (Jean) Palmer of Santa Fe, NM; and lifelong friend, Carl Steward of Rockford.
A visitation will be held at Moss Funeral Home, 100 S 3rd St., St. Charles, IL 60174 on Tuesday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the funeral service to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Edgewater Veterans Group, who support local veterans in need.
