Hononegah students gave back to others
This school year, students at Hononegah High School offered their time, caring. and talent.
Students at Hononegah Community High School's clubs and those who have taken on leadership roles have given back unselfishly through the 2023-2024 school year, with their actions causing a positive effect for everyone that they have reached out to.
At this year's Homecoming, school leaders shone a light on the loving hearts of HCHS students.
In April, Writers Club sponsored a coin blitz to raise money for Stateline Literacy, which helped adults improve literacy skills and to earn American citizenship.
The Renaissance Club was able to raise over $1,000 for childhood cancer research.
Students raised over $360 for Swedish American Hospital's “Kits for Kids,” providing welcome bags to children who are admitted.
Students and attendees of the Homecoming talent show filled a full grocery cart with food to be donated to the Old Stone Church Food Pantry.
The HCHS Student Council worked with the Key Club as part of the “Pink Out” at the Belvidere North game to raise over $1,000 for cancer research.
In February, members of the Key Club hand-delivered Valentines cards to residents at Fair Oaks Assisted Living and played bingo with them.
Additionally they have continued to spread cheer by dropping off cards to Walter Lawson Children's Home, North Pointe Terrace, and Highview in the Woodlands.
In April, the Key Club asked for shower products to give to Fair Oaks residents, and once again brought joy to the residents by playing bingo games with them.
The National Honor Society helped youth and families in need through a clothing donation drive. They collected over 1,600 donated items.
The school newspaper has hosted journalism workshops to refine their skills and recruit new team members. Two of them have begun working with Rockton-Roscoe News.
Starting off the month of May a number of students are honing their skills on a Rockford area Habitat for Humanity home.
