Hononegah runs for over 400 yards in the 63-21 victory over the Boylan Titans Friday.
The running game has been the best part of the Hononegah offense this season. Well, Friday night saw the Hononegah Indians run for net total of 402 yards. Leading the way was senior Tyler Banker with 21 rushes for 165 yards and a TD. As a team Hononegah had 10 different rushers who combined to average 7.6 yards per run.
In the opening quarter Friday night Hononegah had a tough time stopping the Boylan passing attack as they matched Hononegah score for score. End of first quarter we sat at a 21 all tie. As Coach Brian Zimmerman mentioned postgame, "The offense kept us in the game early on."
Once the game clock started in the second quarter the LOD of Hononegah started to make adjustments and play a lot more aggressively. The defensive line was able to harass Boylan junior QB Dominic Cacciatore as he noticeably struggled after connecting for a touchdown in the opening quarter.
Hononegah scored the final 42 points in the 63-21 victory. Once the game got out of reach the Indian coaches got the 2nd and 3rd team players on the field to get some playing time. Of note during this time was Robert Bertrand scoring a touchdown and the bench going crazy. Once he got to the sideline he was mobbed by his teammates and coaches.
Next up is the undefeated Belvidere North team that looks as though they are the big dogs in the NICV 10 yard this year. The game is next Friday October 17th 2025 at Kelsey Field 7 pm kickoff. Expect the crowd to be loud and the stands will be near capacity on both sides. Arrive early for the best seats.
