Hononegah Rolls Into Regional Semifinals With 54–0 Rout of Grayslake North
Hononegah’s girls flag football program opened the IHSA postseason with the kind of statement only a championship-caliber team can make, overwhelming Grayslake North 54–0 in Wednesday’s Regional Quarterfinal. It was a complete dismantling—offense humming, defense suffocating, special teams electric—and the Indians never once let their foot off the gas.
This was dominance layered on dominance, the type of performance that reminds the rest of Illinois that Hononegah isn’t just talented, they’re healthy, deep, and playing their sharpest football of the season.

Offense Sets the Tone Early
Quarterback Layla Demke continued her late-season surge, going 6-for-12 for 83 yards, two touchdowns, an interception, and a one-point conversion. She added 101 rushing yards on 10 carries, slicing through the Knights’ defense with ease and punching in one rushing touchdown plus two one-point conversions.
Backup quarterback Taylor Passmore stayed perfect in relief, finishing 1-for-1 for three yards and a touchdown, and adding three one-point conversions. She also chipped in four rushing yards.
Running back Emma Heidenreich was explosive, turning just three carries into 54 yards, including a 40-yard burst that set up a score.
Harper Vanderheyden added 17 yards on two carries, while Emma Bullard broke loose for 12 yards on her lone attempt.
Arianna Kahly powered in a short touchdown run, finishing with nine yards on two carries.
Air Attack: Precision and Power
Claire VanSchelven was unstoppable, hauling in three catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns, plus a 26-yard punt return touchdown that electrified the sideline.
Receiver Mikayla Mowers added 16 receiving yards and two one-point conversions, while Alexis Eich pulled in a 17-yard reception.
Wideout Irelyn O’Brien delivered a steady performance with two catches for 11 yards and a touchdown.
Emma Bullard added a one-point conversion through the air.
Defense: A Postseason Masterclass
Hononegah’s defense didn’t just dominate—they smothered Grayslake North from the opening whistle.
- Addison Beilfuss led the charge with 6.5 tackles, flying sideline to sideline.
- Taitum Cates added two tackles and a sack, continuing her disruptive play.
Head Coach Jason Brunke said the group is in a good place heading into the next round, noting that "we are good to go.”
Hononegah’s postseason march continues Monday as the Indians head to McHenry for the IHSA Girls Flag Football Regional Semifinal, a 4:30 p.m. showdown with Jefferson.
