Hononegah opens the 2025 football season on the road against the Auburn Knights
The first game is Saturday August 29, 2025 at noon.
This season, we will be previewing football games in a slightly different way. We will have our Friday AM previews called 4 quarters. We will provide you with four points to consider for each game. It may include players, records, coaches, schemes, or a unique piece of history you may not be aware of. We love feedback from our readers. Please email us (editor@roscoenews.com) or go to our Facebook page and let us know what you think of 4 Quarters.
Today, we look at Hononegah traveling to play the Rockford Auburn Knights in a Saturday showdown at noon. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, August 29, 2025, at 7:15 p.m. However, due to an airplane impacting the football field and making it impossible to play the game, the game needed to be moved. Both teams agreed to the Saturday game, and we are now here for it.
First quarter - Opening weekend to the 2025 season for both teams. This is week 1 for each team. Last week, or "Week 0" as many are now referring to it, saw Hononegah playing host to Byron at Purple and Gold Fest 2025.
Second quarter - Many changes in the leadership for this year's team. Gone are the mainstays in the program from the last couple of years. Jacob Benson is at McKendree University, Brock Anderson is at Carroll University, and last year's starting quarterback, Dominic Kelly, is now playing wide receiver at Ripon College. Needing to replace them will be the new starting QB Drew Shockley, senior Center Max Benson (Jacob's brother), senior brothers Brady and Aiden Jarvis, as well as senior RB/LB Jonea Timoteo, and the other 22 seniors on the roster. Seniors aren't the only leaders on a team; however, they typically help lead the successful direction of most high school sports teams.
Third quarter - Small gains with finding playmakers all over the field. From the RB roles to playmaking WRs. A new group of threats will be found this week as they look to score early and often against the Auburn Knights.
Fourth quarter - Hononegah has won 9 straight games against Auburn. The last time Hononegah lost was 41-17 on September 30th, 2016.
