Hononegah on a early season heater
"I do like the team chemistry of this team and the way they are willing to work hard and practice", stated Hononegah High School coach Brad Sommer
Hononegah opened the 2025-26 boys bowling season with a statement that left little doubt about its intentions.
In the season opener Nov. 8 at Viking Lanes, the Indians rolled to first place, led by a dominating individual performance from senior Tyson Williams and a breakout night from freshman Ian Scharre. Williams paced the field with a staggering 1,354 individual series, while Scharre turned heads with a 279 game as Hononegah overwhelmed the competition.
Hononegah’s depth (37 bowlers this season - including some just starting out) showed throughout the lineup as the Indians combined power and precision to separate themselves from the field. Williams’ series — a mix of high-strike frames and spare conversions — set the tone, but it was the supporting cast that kept the pressure on opponents. Coach Brad Sommer praised the team’s focus and the poise of younger players stepping into varsity roles.
The Indians’ approach blended veteran savvy with youthful fearlessness. Williams, used a combination of power and lane adjustment to post the early season’s top individual mark. Scharre’s 279 provided a jolt that energized teammates and fans alike.
"I do like the team chemistry of this team and the way they are willing to work hard and practice", stated Hononegah High School coach Brad Sommer.
Hononegah’s margin of victory reflected more than individual numbers; it was a team performance. The Indians converted spares at a high clip and avoided the big open frames that can derail a match. When lanes tightened, Hononegah adjusted quickly, moving feet and changing balls to maintain consistency.
The Indians’ early success sets up a key matchup tonight, Thursday, December 4, when Hononegah hosts Jefferson High School at Viking Lanes. Jefferson, a familiar conference rival, will test the Indians’ ability to sustain momentum under pressure.
Hononegah enters the contest with confidence but not complacency. The coaching staff plans to fine-tune lane play and continue developing younger bowlers for the grind of conference play. If the season opener is any indication, the Indians have the firepower and the balance to be a contender.
For now, Hononegah savors a strong start and the buzz that comes with it. As the season unfolds, the Indians will look to turn early promise into sustained success.
