A NIC -10 conference title is in Hononegah's sights as they take on the Belvidere Bucs.

Hononegah looks to wrap the regular season with a win against Belvidere
Hononegah circles together to begin their football game.

Hononegah has had a full week to come off of last week’s high of beating Belvidere North 22-19, coming back after being down 19-7 with just over 7 minutes left.

For Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, the coaching staff for the Indians has talked with the kids, reminding them that any team can be beat by any opponent. Belvidere has struggled to a 1-7 record with their only win  last week, over winless Rockford Auburn 13-6. The Bucs were outgained by  Auburn 210 to 173 yards, but they took advantage of mistakes by Auburn and good field position to get their lone victory on the season.

The Indians, at 7-1 and in a great spot for a share of the NIC-10 title, still need to keep their foot on the pedal against an undermanned Belvidere Bucs team. Dominic Kelly, Kurt Smith and the rest of the offense should be able to pad some stats and get on top of the Bucs early.

It should be noted that this is the last high school game for the Belvidere Bucs seniors. No putting on the pads for most if not all of these kids, no more Friday night lights for the seniors. The Belvidere Bucs will play with a lot of emotions in this one.

The group of players to make note of for Belvidere is.

With a win, Hononegah head coach Brian Zimmerman will build on his school record wins of 78. Coach Zimmerman has a 78-22 record coming into Friday.

Earlier this week I was honored to be on The Bailey Pod with host Tim Bailey on YouTube and his guest Hononegah High School head coach Brian Zimmerman. He talked about last week's exciting win and the upcoming game against Belvidere.
