Hononegah gets top numbers in Math Invitational
The undefeated Math Team heads for regionals on Feb. 26
The Hononegah Math Team took 1st place among eight schools at the Hononegah Math Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29. Up for grabs were 29 gold medals, and the Hononegah Math Team members earned 20 of them (that's approximately 68.96%) - plus 10 more silver medals. In fact, 20 of 30 Hononegah Math Team members in the competition received top honors in one or more categories.
The school scored individual first place awards in Algebra 1, Geometry, and PreCalculus as well as team awards for the Freshman-Sophomore 8-Person Team event, Calculator team, Freshman-Sophomore 2-Person team, and Junior-Senior 2-Person Team. The school team moves on to the ICTM Regionals on February 26 after an unbeaten season.
Mrs. Janet Kagan, the team coach, points out, "In PreCalculus the top four scores were all from Hononegah" - gold, silver, bronze, and fourth. Kagan began coaching the team in 2001.
