The Lady Indians got the win on Monday quickly as they jumped on the Huskies with a 14-2 opening quarter on Monday, February 17, 2025, in a first-round March Madness IHSA 4A Girls basketball game at the Hononegah Fieldhouse. Jordan Dimke and Ainsley Hughes led the scoring each having six points early. The tone was set by the Indians' pressure defense as they caused nearly double-digit turnovers in the opening quarter.
The second quarter seemed to repeat the opening quarter, as the defense from Hononegah allowed them to get turnovers and turn them into easy points. Outsourcing the Harlem Huskies 24-6 in the quarter and leading 38-8. A last-second layup from Jordan Dimke gave her ten points at the half and led the way for Hononegah. The junior seems to be able to run from end to end better than any player she is on the court with. She grabs the rebound, throws an outlet pass, and then sprints to the offensive end meanwhile, her teammates look up the floor to get her layups and easy offense for Hononegah.
The second half was meaningful for Harlem and they competed much better after halftime as they were able to outscore the Hononegah Indians 22-21. They turned the ball over less and got into the offense better.
With the 59-30 win, the Indians move on to play Rockford Guilford Thursday night at the Hononegah Fieldhouse in the March Madness IHSA 4A Girls basketball tournament.
On January 24, 2025, the Guilford Vikings gave the Indians one of their three conference losses, 45-37. Hononegah struggled to control the ball and turned it over more than normal which will be a big tell in the game on Thursday. Coach Jason Brunke says, “We need to take care of the ball better than last time.”
Tipoff for Thursday, February 20, 2025, is set for 6:30 pm, with the doors opening at 5:30 pm. Arrive early as a big crowd is expected for the regional final.
