Hononegah drops the season opener to North Boone
“Today we had a lot of mistakes, so we have a lot of things to work on.” Hononegah High School baseball coach Matt Simpson
The Hononegah Indians baseball team opened up the spring 2025 baseball season with a 10-1 loss to North Boone on Larry Weber Field in Rockton, Illinois.
The Indians struggled early in the Tuesday, March 18, 2025 game. They couldn’t find the strike zone, and North Boone was able to get on the board early and often. They scored the first nine runs of the game and added another run in the top of the 7th to get the 10-1 victory.
IHSBCA Hall of Fame head coach Matt Simpson spoke postgame about his team “laying an egg and being a little jacked for the opening home game of the season and playing on the new field.” He said, “We normally throw strikes and put the ball in play... In the first four innings, we dug ourselves a hole, and North Boone threw strikes and put the ball in play,” he added.“Today, we had a lot of mistakes, so we have a lot of things to work on.”
The next game for Hononegah is Thursday, March 20, against Boylan Catholic. The rival comes into Thursday’s battle at 1-1 on the season with a 2-0 win over Harvest Christian Academy and a 4-3 loss to Rockford Christian earlier this week. Game time from Larry Weber Field on the Hononegah High School campus is slated for 4:30 pm.
