After 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2021, half of Hononegah Community High School was temporarily in the dark because of a p0wer outage.

At 2:41 p.m. the Rockton Police Department announced via Nixle, "Avoid Union St. (Rockton Road) behind Hononegah High School this afternoon due to utility pole damage. Repair crews are responding. Student pick-up and bus routes will be re-routed.  HCHS is providing more information regarding student pick-ups and bus transportation."

Soon a recorded phone call from Principal Chad Dougherty informed parents about the power outage and told them that all 20 buses would pick up students on Salem Street. He added that he expected school to be open as usual on Friday, but if not, they would have a remote day. He said that Homecoming events would be unaffected.

Homecoming week continues on Friday with the Homecoming Parade down Rockton's Main Street at 4:30 p.m. The Homecoming football game against Belvidere North begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale at Ticket Spicket and subscribers can watch it online on the NFHS Network.

The homecoming dance will be held at the school on Saturday, Oct. 2, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Students will need a mask inside the buildings and under the tent. Activities for the evening include: photo backdrops for pictures in the PAC Lobby, a station to put on temporary tattoos, inflatable axe throwing and bow and arrow challenge, and dancing under a beautiful tent. There will be candy and drinks for sale (cash only).
