Coming up: food drive, state competitions, new statue, career lunch and learn
The Hononegah National Honor Society is hosting a Feel the Love stuff-the-bus food drive to restock the shelves at the Old Stone Food Pantry which serves families in our community on Thursday mornings, 9:00-11:00 a.m. The school bus will be parked at the front entrance of the Hononegah High School each morning from Feb. 14-18 on Main Street/Hononegah Road. Feel the love by donating canned and boxed food - any non perishable food items, such as mac and cheese, cereal, canned fruit, tuna, etc. Donations will be accepted from 7:45am to 8:45am each morning and 7:45am to 9:15am on Wednesday.
The girls bowling team is advancing to the state finals, along with Harlem, Freeport, and Sycamore. With a score of 1328, junior Madison Davenport was the individual champion at the IHSA Girls Bowling Sectional, which was held at Don Carter Lanes on Saturday. As a team, Hononegah came in third, with a score of 5552. Other individual scores:

The dance team took their jazz routine to IDTA state competition in Springfield this weekend. Results were not available at press time. The team includes Tayden Bertrand, Reese Danzer, Payton Bird, Mia Nelson, Gabi Collier, Layla Quillen, and Brooklyn Weldon. Skylar Larson and Ella Keener competed as soloists at state as well.
Girls Track and Field finished 5th out of 20 teams at Rockford Auburn Girls Invitational, a great start to their indoor season.
Angelina and Rose Cassioppi are now the IHSA Sectional Girls Wrestling champs. They won their matches this weekend at Naperville Central High. In two weeks, they will compete in the first ever IHSA Girls Wrestling State Tournament. The boy's sectional competition was at Barrington High School.
Girls Sophomore Basketball team competed this weekend at the NIC-10 Conference Tournament at Belvidere North High School.
The Boys Swim and Dive Team went for for their 12th consecutive NIC-10 Conference championship at the conference meet Saturday at Jefferson.
You can donate toward Rockton Remembers Hononegah Statue Fund in person or you can donate by mail, but you can't donate online. This way, every penny goes toward the fund. You can drop off your tax-deductible donation at First National Bank and Trust, at either the Roscoe or Rockton location, or stop by Macktown Insurance, 301 E. Main St., in Rockton. Michael McGinnis, editor of Rockton-Roscoe News and owner of Webimize, a web development firm, will help Hononegah students learn about careers in the Information Technology, AV Technology, Arts & Communication Pathways on Thursday, Feb. 17 at the school's Workplace Readiness Lunch & Learn Event. Representatives from Chartwell, Premier Technologies, Beloit College, as well as Hononegah graduates Jalen Pounder of Evendtor and Zoe Chipalla with WIFR, will share about their experiences and current and future job opportunities in the field. And there will be free pizza.
