Hononegah Bass Fishing makes top 25 at state championships for 2nd straight season

Hononegah anglers look to bag some big fish while competing for the IHSA Bass Fishing Championships.

The Bass Fishing team at Hononegah competed at the IHSA Bass Fishing Championships for a 2nd straight season. The 2-day championship was scheduled for  May 20 and May 21, 2022 on Carlyle Lake in Carlyle, IL.

After Day 1, Friday, the team, consisting of Mason Lambert, Landen Stringham, and Colton Boelkes, sat in 20th place with a total weight of 2 lbs. 12 oz. The team was one of 75 competing this year. The championships were not held a year ago due to COVID 19. Hononegah did compete in the 2019-2020 IHSA Bass Fishing Championships.

On Saturday, the tournament was cancelled due to weather, so they finished the tournament in 20th place.

Hononegah qualified by winning the sectional on May 5 at Pierce Lake at Rock Cut State Park. The team is coached by Bill Heller and the driver of the boat is Jeff Boelkes.
