Harmony for Hunger Concert: two singing groups benefitting eight food pantries

The annual Harmony for Hunger Concert, Friday, March 18 at Hononegah Performing Arts Center, benefits eight local food pantries and featuring the award-winning Triumphant Quartet plus Rockford's Alleluia Quartet.

Tickets are $15 and any additional donations will go to the food agencies.

Sponsored by the United Methodist Men of the Prairie North District, Harmony for Hunger Concert began in 2009 and has been held annually since then, except for COVID-related interruptions. In 2020 they held a virtual concert on Facebook Live,  giving people the opportunity to donate to the food pantries instead of buying tickets.

In  12 years, the "southern gospel" concert series has raised $150,000 for the benefitting food agencies. Sponsoring companies [PDF], including WREX, Meridian, Helm, Wesley Willows, and NI Steel, cover the expenses of the concert, so that the entire profit from tickets and the offering at the event will go to the food agencies.

The Alleluia Quartet is a Rockford-based mens quartet that has been singing together for 36 years.  The group has participated in all twelve Harmony For Hunger concerts and says they have been influenced musically and spiritually by Triumphant Quartet. Since 1985, they have traveled all over northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, Iowa, and even Ohio. (Hear their song "Glorious" from their album He Is Our Song).

Triumphant Quartet is a nationally known southern gospel group from Tennessee.  This will be the eighth time that Triumphant has participated. They have had three #1 songs and several others have climbed the Top 40 (two are in the Top 50 right now). At the 50th GMA Dove Awards in 2019, Triumphant's album YES was voted Southern Gospel Album of the Year and nominated for Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year. In 2021 they were nominated for Best Southern Gospel Artist of the Year.  The readers of Singing News have chosen them the Fan Favorite Quartet for the past 11 years. They have won several “Song of the Year” and “Album of the Year” awards over that same time. (Hear how good they sound on a tour bus.)

Proceeds of the concert will help:

  • Society of St Andrew - Meals For Millions
  • Empower Boone Food Pantry
  • Pecatonica Food Pantry
  • Helping Hands Pantry in Machesney Park
  • Rock River Valley Pantry
  • Rockton/Roscoe Food Pantry
  • Cornucopia Food Pantry
  • Freeport Area Church Cooperative Food Pantry
