Harlem Roscoe Fire Department hosts Fire Prevention Week activities
Kids slid down the slide, learned how to use a firehose, and colored pictures.
Handling a fire hose is harder than it looks for this little boy. Harlem-Roscoe firemen demonstrated fire-fighting techniques during the Fire Prevention Week Open House at Station 1, in Roscoe, on Saturday, Oct. 9.
Roscoe families had the opportunity to check out the fire trucks and emergency vehicles at the Fire Prevention Week Open House at Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department on Main Street in Roscoe, Saturday, Oct. 9.
Kids tried on fire gear, slid down the slide, checked out the “house on fire,” learned how to use a firehose, and drew pictures at the coloring table.
Sparky the Fire Dog roamed the fire station parking lot, posed for pictures, and hugged the kids.
Chief Don Shoevlin said the open house is held each year to increase awareness of fire safety and offer tips to families.
Fire personnel treated the crowd to grilled hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on a grill built by the Harlem High School welding class for the HRFD.
Shoevlin said the annual Senior Turkey Dinner is coming up on Nov. 18, the Thursday before Thanksgiving.
Sparky and his friend Melissa greeted children in the parking area at the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department Open House on Saturday, Oct. 9.
