Hamborg Road bridge should reopen in early June
Kinnikinnick Creek was diverted around the Hamborg Road bridge for repairs.
The Hamborg Road bridge, south of Burr Oak Road, will be closed for about four weeks for repairs, depending on the weather. The work should be completed by June 7. Roscoe Township has put up detour signs on Burr Oak, directing traffic to Atwood Road. Hamborg Road connects Belvidere Road and Elevator Road, making a jog at Burr Oak.
At the Roscoe Township Board meeting on May 12, Highway Commissioner Steve Schreier reported that previous floods had chipped away the outer casing of the cement of the pylons of the bridge, which crosses the South Kinnikinnick Creek. Alliance Contractors began work on May 10 to divert the water to make the bridge dry, and planned to start repairs on Monday, May 17, if it was dry enough by then. Schreier said he hadn't been familiar with Alliance Contractors, but several townships had given good recommendations, saying they had used them before.
The bid award and price for repairs was approximately $112,000 according to Schreier, not $167,000 as previously reported.
