Something is stirring on the fields of Roscoe, and Rockton — if you listen closely, you can hear it in the laughter, the cleats on the turf, and the unmistakable energy of girls discovering a sport that’s finally getting the spotlight it deserves. This spring, the RRL Jr. Indians Girls Flag Football program is building something big. The kind of big that brings families to the sidelines, inspires confidence, and gives young athletes a chance to be part of a growing movement. But before the season kicks off, they need a few more players to round out their teams.

The call goes out to girls ages 7–8, 9–10, and middle schoolers in grades 6–8 who attend Roscoe, Rockton, or Shirland schools. Experience isn’t required — just a willingness to run, learn, and have fun. And make no mistake: there’s never been a better moment to jump in. Flag football is one of the fastest‑growing sports in the country, now officially sanctioned by the IHSA and headed to the Olympic stage in 2028.

Coaches and volunteers are ready. The fields are ready. The only thing missing is a handful of girls who want to try something new and be part of a team that’s about more than football — it’s about confidence, camaraderie, and community.

The deadline to register is March 30, with a camp and make‑up assessment set for April 2 from 5:30–7:30 PM. Share the word, tag a friend, and help give these girls the chance to be part of something special.

RRL Jr. Indians Girls Flag Football Now Registering Youth Players

The RRL Jr. Indians Girls Flag Football program is growing — and now is the time for local girls to get in the game.

Open to girls ages 7–8 and 9–10 (2nd–5th grade) from Roscoe, Rockton, and Shirland school districts, this program is part of the Rockford Park District’s Youth Girls NFL Flag League.

The RRL Jr. Indians are building teams focused on skill development, confidence, and teamwork in a fun and supportive environment. No experience is needed — beginners are welcome.

Players will learn the fundamentals of flag football, practice 1–2 days per week, and compete in games throughout the spring season at Clarence Hicks Sports Complex.

With girls' flag football now an IHSA-sanctioned sport and rapidly growing nationwide, this is a great opportunity for young athletes to get involved early.

Registration deadline is March 30.
