Bill Marks (1949-2022) was a deacon and a school building engineer

William Douglas “Bill” Marks, of Roscoe, entered into eternal rest on April 18, 2022. He was born September 17, 1949 in Prescott, Arkansas, the son of Henry and Zannie Mae Marks. William was employed for 12 years as a machinist by National Lock, later working for  36 years as a building engineer in the Rockford Public School District before retiring. He was a member of St. Paul Church of God in Christ, serving as a deacon. 

William graduated from McRae High School in Prescott, Arkansas. He lived in Illinois since moving from Arkansas in 1970. He married the former Rosemary Parham on November 7, 1973. He enjoyed life to the fullest, and truly enjoyed being outside.

William leaves to cherish many loving memories, his devoted wife, Rosemary; two daughters, Sonya Marks and Cherise Johnson; grandson, Sean Marks; brother, Larry (Sherisice) Marks; three sisters, Lorene Marks Foreman, Lois Douglass, and Eloise (Walter) McGill; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, James and Ray Marks; two sisters, Mae Helen Gulley, and Lucile Hale.

Services were held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, 1001 Bishop Washington Ave. in Rockford. Entombment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Machesney Park. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements were completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, Inc. at 200 N. Johnston Ave. in Rockford.
