Mariner Girl Scouts to host Robin's Egg Hunt

2021 was a tough year. A year of sacrifice and cancelled plans. Covid 19 and its effects took over everyone’s life for well over a year.

One of the yearly events that had to be cancelled was the Mariner Girl Scout 361 Easter Egg Hunt on the grounds of Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 7404 Elevator Rd. in Roscoe.

The Easter Egg Hunt has been a tradition for 27 years. It is a fund-raising endeavor that allows the young ladies to complete service projects and assist Native American families in poor Alaskan reservations.

Because of COVID, the Scouts were unable to hold their traditional Egg Hunt last spring, and therefore were not able to raise funds for their trip to Alaska.

Mariner Scout Leader Louise Glon said the girls have adapted to the situation, and made some changes. This year, instead of an Easter Egg Hunt, they will be hosting a Robin’s Egg Hunt on the Cross and Crown lawn, Saturday, July 31.

During each session, 250 eggs will be hidden on the lawn around the church. The first hunt is 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon. The afternoon hunt is 1:00– 3:00 p.m.

“All of the eggs will be dyed robin’s egg blue, except for some very special gold and silver eggs,” Glon said.

Here’s how it works: Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at the door for $2.00. Each ticket is numbered. Children hunt for the blue egg with their number on it. When they have found the egg, it is turned in for a basket of goodies.

Any lucky egg-hunter that finds a special silver or gold egg will receive a bonus prize.

All proceeds go to ChildFund, formerly called the Christian Children’s Fund.

Twenty-two girls are members of the Mariner Troop this year. Membership is open to girls in 7th grade through high school.
