Hidden Creek Estates launches softly

After seeking and receiving final approval from the City of South Beloit, Hidden Creek Estates is beginning to receive visitors. The venue at 13276 White School Road hosted a wedding on July 3. Neighbors had been concerned about traffic and noise, and we reached out to two of the most vocal to ask how it went, but did not receive a immediate response. Both the venue staff and the  neighbors in opposition to the venue have been limiting their public comments. But Hidden Creek Estates had to share some news.

In a "soft launch" to work out any overlooked details, the wine bar in the lower level of the 1940s yellow barn will open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Visitors should note that the parking lot has only 75 spots, so they are encouraged to carpool.

Under construction since December, the speakeasy-themed wine bar has an unusual eclectic feel: elegant antiques set in a rustic barn.  A stained glass door from an 1860 mansion in Peoria is set in a weathered wall. An 8 foot crystal chandelier hangs from the barn's ceiling. Some of the tables were made from wood taken from the barn's horse stalls. The centerpiece of the wine bar is an 1864 cast iron fireplace from Milwaukee. Almost all the decor was hand-picked from local estate sales and antique stores, and the staff can tell you a story about almost every piece.

New additions elsewhere on the property, besides the 75-space parking lot, include a fountain in the pond and a bonfire nook. The venue is planning a grand opening on Thursday, July 29, which is set to feature "acoustic music, food, wine, and good company." Again, visitors are encouraged to carpool.
