Hearing for the annexation of Historic Auto Attractions museum to be held Tuesday
The Village of Roscoe is holding a public hearing for the proposed annexation agreement of the Historic Auto Attractions museum on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. Interested individuals can attend in person or join remotely by phone or by visiting https://meetings.ringcentral.com/j/1489394050.
Museum owner Wayne Lensing eventually wants to double the size of his 36,000 square foot museum at 13825 Metric Road, which is open during the summer Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To make that possible, at last week's Village of Roscoe Zoning Board of Appeals, he requested the museum to be annexed into the Village of Roscoe. With his attorney, he said he wasn't asking for any changes right now, he just wanted approval to continue his current operations as part of the Village instead of unincorporated Winnebago County. The ZBA agreed.
The museum already features more than 75 historic autos, such as presidential cars used by Kennedy, Reagan, Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Johnson, and Coolidge. It also includes vehicles used by Elvis Presley, country music star Conway Twitty, gangster John Dillinger, Colonel Sanders, Soviet Premiers Joseph Stalin and Nikita Khrushchev, billionaire Howard Hughes, Japanese Emperor Hirohito, Evita Perón, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, and Batman. The museum includes one of the largest collections of memorabilia from President John F. Kennedy and the Kennedy family, and even a collection of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia. Some items are on loan from NASA / Lyndon Johnson Space Center in Houston Texas. Roscoe News will tour the museum for an upcoming story.
According to the published agenda, the sole item under consideration at Tuesday's public hearing is "related to the annexation of approximately 63.76 acres of land owned by the applicant, and commonly known as , 13935 Metric Road, Roscoe, IL 61073 (PIN 04-16-326-003). Proposed Zoning: IG - General Industrial."
