Families celebrate National Night Out in Roscoe

A familiar and popular August event in Roscoe brought hundreds of families downtown on August 6, 2024, for National Night Out, hosted by the Roscoe Police Department and Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department.

Kelly Weber, wife of Roscoe Police Sgt. Aaron Weber, has been in charge of the Roscoe version of National Night Out for several years. The event featured free, family-friendly activities, and the opportunity to get to know the first responders who keep Roscoe residents safe.

Families were invited to participate in games, sample treats, check out a car show, “Touch a Truck,” sit in a police car or fire truck, participate in a drawings for prizes, or talk face to face with members of the Roscoe Police Department.

Small businesses and organizations set up tables and booths along the downtown center of Main Street in Roscoe. Culver's Restaurant dished out free ice cream treats for kids and family members.

Games for the younger children were set up along Main Street for National Night Out. The event was free to all families in the area. The yearly event is meant to build relationships between neighbors and law enforcement personnel.

Every year, police departments from all over the United States designate the first Tuesday in August as National Night Out. The original intent of the designated day was to create and strengthen the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement and to help bring back a true sense of community.
