Roscoe and Rockton residents had an opportunity to get to know some of the candidates who are running for Winnebago County positions at a meet and greet election forum held at Roscoe Township Community Center, Wednesday evening, February 28, 2924.

Three candidates attended the event, two of them running for Winnebago County Board of Trustees for District 3: Ray Thompson, running for the seat, and John M. Guevara, the current representative.

Jennifer Muraski, Winnebago County Coroner, is the incumbent running for re-election in the March 19 primary election.

The program was hosted by Rockton-Roscoe News, the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford (LWVGR) and the Hononegah Community High School Key Club, who acted as timers.

Judy Schultz, representing the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford. (LWVGR), was the moderator for the non-partisan event.

Each candidate was allowed three minutes to introduce themselves to the audience, followed by the opportunity to talk one-to-one with voters.

Representatives from WNIJ/Northern Public Radio, including news director Jenna Dooley and reporter Maria Gardner Lara, engaged with voters and provided survey cards.

Rockton resident Tracy Cannell said she was happy to get to know more about the candidates. “I like the fact that they were so accessible and answered all my questions... I appreciated the information from Coroner Jennifer Muraski, about her work with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department regarding the organ donor program.”

“The Meet and Greet was a great opportunity to get to know Ray Thompson and John Guevera, both running for a seat on the Winnebago County Board, District 3.”

“I think the opportunity to talk to all three candidates was really beneficial.”

Chris Marks agreed. “It was nice to talk one on one with the candidates and get to know their opinions.”
