New Business on Main Street in Roscoe - Gold & Glow Lab
Main Street in Roscoe continues its glow-up with the addition of another new business, Gold & Glow Lab, located at 10532 Main St.
The beauty salon is owned and operated by 24-year-old Taliyah Huffman, a licensed esthetician and lash artist.
Along with Huffman, Gold & Glow Lab has a team of five employees who offer a variety of services, such as lash extensions, lash lifts and tints, brow lamination, body waxing, sugaring, facials, and even tooth gems.
Huffman prides herself on providing natural-looking eyelash extensions and result-driven facial treatments, such as the Biorepeel facial, which she says can target and resolve any skin issue, and the Beyond Botox facial, an age reversal treatment that promises noticeable results after one treatment. All of her facial treatments include a complimentary lip treatment.
She started her journey of becoming an esthetician by graduating from Tricoci University of Beauty Culture in 2021. She spent one year operating in a shared room with a colleague before later offering her services at a more prominent location that she had to herself, in Loves Park.
But Huffman wanted more. After all, her whole goal was to grow. And when she found her new location on Main Street in Roscoe, she knew it was perfect.
She says, “I’d heard great things about Roscoe, and the community seems very close-knit and very supportive of small businesses. That drew me in, made me interested, and it really is such a cute area!”
After a month and a half of a complete renovation, Gold & Glow Lab opened for business at the end of October. You can check out the official Gold & Glow Facebook page to see pictures and videos of the amazing transformation.
Huffman took the time to find the right team members and is still looking to fill two spaces, but she hopes to have her team full and to hold a Grand Opening in February, around Valentine’s Day.
So far, she has valued being a new business owner in the village of Roscoe and has especially enjoyed the visits and messages from both residents and fellow neighboring business owners, such as Linkt, and Velvet Robot Coffee Lab (coming early 2024), both of whom she looks forward to collaborating with.
She says, “I definitely like the vibe from the people. They’re very eager to learn what’s going on and seem so interested, and everyone is so friendly. I like that everyone is involved and wants to stay up-to-date with what’s new in the area, I really appreciate that.”
Huffman is a Rockford resident and hopes to move to the Roscoe area one day. Some of her other future goals include both expanding her business and helping her current team members grow. She says, “I really want to help the girls working in here too. I want to support them and help them grow their own businesses so that they can expand and do something like this themselves.”
As for her advice to new business owners, or those thinking of becoming one- “Know and find your clientele, that's very important. But also, don't lose sight of the big picture. When you're starting out, it may be a little more difficult than you expected, but keep the bigger goal and the bigger picture in mind.”
You can follow Gold & Glow Lab on their official Instagram page, and be sure to stop in for service menus, and loyalty codes offering 20% off. While you're there you can check out their products, and purchase your gift cards for your last-minute holiday shopping.
