Veterans Day - Sat Nov 11 8:00 am

Veterans Day honors the military veterans who served honorably in the United States Armed Forces. It was originally called Armistice Day because the armistice with Germany took effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, officially ending World War I. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Veterans are traditionally given free meals by the Roscoe VFW, while others can enjoy turkey dinners at a reasonable price there and at the Old Stone Church in Rockton.

Pack the Bus for Old Stone Pantry - Sat Nov 11 8:00 am

Rockton Grade School

8 a.m. - 12 p.m. You can donate instant potatoes, frozen turkey, cranberry sauce, desserts, canned vegetables, stuffing, gravy, and much more needed. All donations will be brought to Old Stone Food Pantry that same day to help feed our local community members in need. School bus donated by First Student. [more details]

We will be having a special speaker Kim Mclver. Kim is an Illinois Humanity Road Scholar Speaker. Kim will focus on Native women, primarily Singing Bird (Blackhawk’s wife) & Hononegah (Stephen Mack’s wife). She will introduce Native Ojibwa language and music. This is an interactive experience with an opportunity to play drums, jingles & rain sticks. Every Thursday Stewardship Day at Lost Flora Fen - Thu Nov 16 9:00 am

Lost Flora Fen on Raccoon Creek

9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Lost Flora Fen on Raccoon Creek is Natural Land Institute’s second largest preserve at nearly 400 acres. Raccoon Creek meanders through it, there is a boardwalk in the northern part where the fen is, there are agricultural fields and natural areas.
Volunteers will help with restoring fields to native grassland habitat, maintenance of the boardwalk, mowing, seeding, prescribed burns and other tasks as needed.
Dress for the weather and wear sturdy closed toe shoes.  [more details]

Bushnell-Wheeler Open House - Nov 17-19 4:00 pm

Bushnell-Wheeler Home

No charge for admission. The South Beloit Historical Society will hold its annual holiday open house at the historic 1856 Bushnell-Wheeler home on Nov. 17-18-19. We will have the home decorated with Christmas trees in every room, an early kick off of the holidays. We give free refreshments and tours of the 1856 home. Our barn has an addition with new Beloit displays. Home made crafts, breads and Beloit books will be on sale. [more details]
