John Alexander was proud to be a Roscoe Lion

John Alexander (1955-2023)

John Alexander believed in giving back to his community. He wasn’t born in Roscoe, but considered it home. He was a devoted member of the Roscoe Lions Club for many years and served as a Village of Roscoe trustee from 1997-2004.

John was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, his family by his side.

John was born in Rockford on November 23, 1955 to Betty and Clayton Alexander. He married Linda Ehret on August 25, 1979 at Forest Hills Evangelical Free Church. They recently celebrated 44 years together.

He was a 1974 graduate of Hononegah High School in Rockton, IL (Go Indians!). He loved working with the Roscoe Lions Club, the annual Fall Festival and serving on the Lions Club Scholarship committee.

John enjoyed being with his family and friends and loved his children and grandchildren.

John worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Swedish American Hospital and Van Matre Inpatient Rehabilitation Institute in Rockford, IL, for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Alexander; children, Matthew (Wendy) Alexander and Sarah (Justin) Sabin; grandchildren, Juniper and Hudson Alexander and Erin and Clayton Sabin; sister, Cathy Alexander; and brother, Don (JoAnn) Alexander. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Chris Alexander.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a Celebration of Life from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a luncheon following at Memorial Baptist Church, 7007 Flora Rd., Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers, please give memorials to the church.
