Every season the Harlem Huskies and the Hononegah Indians football games seem to be tight battles. The last five games have been decided by one score. Hononegah has been able to take home four of the last five games from the Huskies. The only game Hono has lost was the spring April 2021 COVID season game.

As fans, we should expect nothing less this week as the Huskies and Indians take the field Friday night September 1, 2023. The matchup should be a tightly contested battle between two 1-0 teams. Hononegah easily dismantled Jefferson last Friday 55-8 at Kelsey Field.

Harlem had a much more difficult contest besting Auburn 12-6. The Huskies were aided by three terrible special team snaps that led to three safeties. Other than that, Harlem was only able to get one other score to get the victory.

Harlem is led by former Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Year Bob Moynihan. Coach Moynihan and his staff will have a bag full of tricks and schemes ready for the high-powered offense and defense of the Indians.

On the field, the Hononegah Indians are led by seniors Cole Warren and Isaiah Houi plus a massive offensive line that will look to control the line of scrimmage and push around the Huskies front. Last week, on defense the Indians allowed less than 60 yards total to the Jefferson team that was overwhelmed by the speed, power, and disciplined defense of Hononegah.

Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. from Kelsey Field. It's advised to arrive early to get the best seats. The high school has sent out a few notices regarding arrival times as the seats seem to fill up fast. Grab your popcorn and pop and enjoy the game. The weather looks to be very good for the pre-Labor Day Friday.

If you can’t come to Kelsey Field, the game is available online for viewing at the YouTube channel for Clutch Sports Media 815, the NFHS Network (subscription required) or listen to the vocal tones of Andy Gannon and Tom Polaski at mostly90s.com
