Larry Polglaze could golf 80 and bowl 299

Larry David Polglaze, 76, of Roscoe, IL, umpired baseball for 10 years for the Roy Gayle Pony league and the Illinois High School Association as well as officiating basketball games for a short time. Larry was an excellent bowler with a high score of 299, a good golfer with a low round of 80, and could compete with the best. He also liked competing in ping-pong and horseshoes.

He passed away on Sunday night, July 30, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 26, 1946 in Beloit, WI, the son of David and Juanita (Fry) Polglaze. Larry was a 1965 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from January 31, 1966 to January 30, 1969. Larry married Kathy Perry on January 5, 1977. 

Larry was formerly employed by Rockford Oil Company as a manager for over 25 years and State Oil Company for 5 years until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling by car to all the states in the United States while visiting as many casinos as possible with his lovely wife.  He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Milwaukee Brewers.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Polglaze; sons, Jason (Catherine) Polglaze of Spring Grove, IL and Jon (Sherena) Polglaze of Loves Park, IL; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Larry was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Beverly Becker and Darlene Franklin.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd., Beloit, WI, with Chaplain Rod Wedel officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Beloit VFW Post #2306.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to OSF Cancer Center.
