Dr. Edward L. Post taught anesthesiology for medical schools

Dr. Edward Post (1944-2023)

Edward L. Post, MD, 79, of Roscoe, worked as an anesthesiologist for Rockford Anesthesiologists Associated and was chairman of anesthesiology at Swedish American Hospital for 15 years. Edward was an associate professor at University of Iowa in the 70's, taught at UIC College of Medicine, and received awards for research. He would talk about his students all the time.

He went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

Edward was born March 21, 1944, in Denver, CO, the son of Lawrence A. and Elizabeth M. (Crane) Post. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he graduated from University of Colorado, with medical school at University of Colorado and his medical residency at University of Iowa. Edward married Sharon Eaton on June 6, 1970.

Edward was a member of First Free Church where he was an elder. He loved the outdoors and was a farmer, fisher, hunter, avid skier, raised Welsh ponies, and was a dancer. Most of all Edward was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Carie Poirier, Robert D. (Audrey) Post, and Daniel E. (Jessica) Post; grandchildren, John (Margaret), Tristan, Micah, Katelyn, Clinton, Levi, and Reese; and sister, Laurabeth Hotz. He was predeceased by his parents. The family would like to thank Rockford Anesthesiologists Associated, friends at First Free for their prayer support and the hospital staff at UW Health for their care.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at First Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church. Private burial will be in Willowbrook Cemetery, Roscoe, IL. Memorials may be made to By Design Visuals in Loves Park, IL or SwedishAmerican Foundation.
