Along with flowers, balloons and a bottle of champaign, Dave Sayer (L) representing Publishers Clearing House Prize Patrol, presented Doug Newland of Roscoe, with a check for $25,000.

Real people really do win!
Nearly everyone has seen the Publishing Clearing House (PCH) ads on television. You know, the one where representatives from PCH knock on a lucky winner’s door with balloons, flowers, champaign and an oversized check for anywhere from $10,000 to “forever prizes” worth many millions.

To date, PCH has awarded over half billion dollars in prizes. The Prize Patrol travels across the country awarding major prizes. Winners are selected at random.

Roscoe resident Doug Newland has been entering the PCH Sweepstakes on a regular basis, always hoping to win that pot of gold. He hit the jackpot on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

The Prize Patrol, led by PCH representative Dave Sayer and a television camera crew, arrived at Newland’s place of business: Stateline Sports Group, 7939 Burden Rd. in Machesney Park. They entered the building with a large bouquet of roses, bubbly, balloons and a replica of a check for $25,000. Before leaving, Sayer presented Newland with the real $25,000 check.

With company workers standing by, Newland looked stunned. “Wow, this is awesome. I am overwhelmed. I can’t wait to tell my wife, and family.”

Newland said he isn’t sure what he will do with the windfall. He said he is scheduled to have knee surgery in a few days. The money will help pay the bills.

PCH has evolved and expanded its offerings to include many ways to win online and through social media, mobile access and fun-to-play apps.

The Prize Patrol regularly travels across the country awarding major prizes to surprised winners.
