Erika Weiss (1924-2023)

Erika Weiss, 98, of Rockton, Illinois, was born in Pruetzin, Germany in 1924. She was the loving wife of Rudy Weiss and devoted mother of Carin and Ingrid.

The family immigrated from Germany to Canada in 1950, where their two daughters Carin (1953) and Ingrid (1959) were born. In October 1959, the family came to the United States to be near relatives. They lived in Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and East Lansing, Michigan and Port Richey, Florida before moving to Rockton, Illinois in 2013, to be closer to their daughter and her husband.

Erica passed away peacefully at Highview in the Woodlands in Rockton, on Thursday, January 5, at the age of 98. She was born May 8th, 1924.

While living in East Lansing, Michigan, Erica was employed as a head cook for the school district for over 25 years. In addition to working and taking care of her family, Erica enjoyed biking, walking, swimming, reading and traveling with her husband of 67 years.

Erica was preceded in death by her husband Rudy; parents Karl and Frieda Louisa Kleinschmidt; one brother and two sisters. She is survived by daughters Carin (Charlie) Richter of Rockton, IL and Ingrid Weiss of Austin, TX; loving niece Irma (Horst) Herrmann and grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial ceremony was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 14, 2023, at McCorkle Funeral Home - Rockton Chapel, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, IL with Reverend Dan Herman officiating. Cremation rites were accorded. A visitation was held from 10:00 a.m., until time of service. A livestream recording of the services is available.
