Virginia Madru (1923-2022)

Virginia Mae Madru, 93, Roscoe, IL was born at home on November 12, 1929, in Beloit, WI to Edwin Engen and Gertrude (Pelton) Engen. She married Edward Lyle (Skip) Madru in South Beloit, IL on July 17, 1948, who predeceased her in 2009. She was a loving member and faithful servant of St. Bridget Parish, Loves Park, IL.

She passed away on December 21, 2022, at PA Peterson at the Citadel.

As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was an inspiration and role model: devoted, fiercely independent, with a spirited quick wit and delightful dry sense of humor.

She recalled making her mother proud that she graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1948. She avidly wanted her grandchildren and great grandchildren to be educated and self-sufficient. She was most proud of her loving marriage and motherhood to two daughters, Ann and Christine. She specifically recalled her fondness for hosting family dinners on Sundays and special occasions. Her family says, "The legacy of family Sunday dinner lives on and we will fondly continue to make deviled eggs and drink red wine (with ice) in remembrance."

She is survived by daughter, Ann Elston (Madru), son-in-law and dear friend Randy Skattum, grandchildren; Jennifer (Todd) Whiteman, Amy (Gene) McDonald and Aaron Elston (Mariana). great-grandchildren; Ava, Caitlin, Cora, Allison, Ethan, Josie, and Romy Nicole. She was predeceased by her parents, three siblings, Beverly (Don) Johnson, Margaret (Charles) Whalen, and Don (Lois) Engen, and her daughter Christine (Randy) Skattum.

Services are still pending at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Bridget Catholic Church. The family is assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory (Riverside Chapel).
