Roscoe wrestler Angelina Cassioppi was selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Hononegah junior Angelina Cassioppi was selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Nov. 1, 2022.

The last weekend in October, Cassioppi won her second-straight title at the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa. Last year, she won the crown at 100 pounds, but this season, she won again at 112 pounds.

The Roscoe native dominated the field with six wins, including two pins and a technical fall. In the finals, Cassioppi ranked No. 6 in the nation, cruised past 112-pound defending champion and No. 14 Angelina Vargas of Missouri, 10-3.

Throughout the tournament, Cassioppi surrendered just five points to her competition.
