The 2022 Roscoe Lions Fall Festival had about 20% more food vendors and carnival rides than in 2021. Attendance was good even without the 50/50 raffle or attendance prizes offered last year. The Lions said there was no funding for fireworks. But otherwise the Fall Festival sounded like the oldest local event of its kind should sound - which it is - with music, carnival barkers, and appropriate screams from the riders.
Because of rain, the festival parade, then the whole festival, was canceled Sunday. So was the music by Distilled, an award-winning acoustic duo formed in 2018 by Darryl Andrus and Brian Scott Taylor, who have a combined 70 years of live performance experience. As a consolation, if you scroll down this page, you can hear and watch one of their hundreds of songs that span seven decades.
Not everything was canceled, though. The Lions held the grand prize drawing in the afternoon and winners were announced on Facebook. When I asked Roscoe United Methodist Church about Sunday morning's Breakfast at Leland Park, which started at 7 a.m., they replied, "We are serving till 9:45. Plenty of pancakes. Come on over."
