It's Hononegah football time again!

If you have been anywhere near the Hononegah High School lately, you may have heard some whistles, loud crunches, or a hum in the air. That’s the sound of high school training camp.

George Halas, the Hall of Fame Chicago Bears coach and player said, “Don't do anything in practice that you wouldn't do in the game.” Well, reigning NIC 10 Coach of the Year Brian Zimmerman and his staff are preparing the Indians for another run deep into the playoffs.

Last season, Hononegah finished 11-1, losing in the third level of the playoffs to St, Rita out of Chicago 36-16. Although the loss stung, it nevertheless was a very successful campaign for the program.

Coming into this season, the Indians need to replace NIC 10 Offensive MVP Bryce Goodwine, as well as seven other all-conference performers. Like any powerhouse program, the names may change but the expectations remain the same.

Hononegah opens this season against Jefferson on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Auburn High School. It’s a 12: 15 p.m. kickoff. The remaining schedule doesn’t get any easier as they play a full slate of NIC 10 conference opponents. The normal cast of competitive teams will be in the Indians' way if they want to repeat as conference champions. The Indians have captured four of the last eight conference titles, going undefeated in three of those campaigns.

The homecoming game this season has Rockford East coming to Kelsey Field on Friday, September 23. It will be a big week for the entire Hononegah community as they celebrate not only Homecoming but 100 years of the high school.

Senior night is set for Friday, October 21 when Auburn comes to Kelsey Field to do battle with the Indians.
