Donald “Don” Lee Alberts, 70, married his beloved wife Gail (Scott) on May 23, 1987, and they spent 35 wonderful years together. They both worked for Cadbury-Adams in Loves Park, IL for more than 30 years, both retiring in 2007. Now part of Mondelēz International, it is the company's only confectionery plant in the USA, producing their gum brands.

Before and after their retirement, Don and Gail spent nearly all of their time together, doing what they loved most - fishing at their second home on Big Round Lake in Wisconsin, playing games, and watching movies. Don cherished his family and the many long-lasting friendships that he developed through work, fishing, bowling, softball, golf, and other activities.

Don passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday May 22, 2022 at his home in Rockton, IL.

Don was born on January 28, 1952 in Rockford, IL, the son of LeRoy and Margaret “Lucille” (Webster). Besides his wife Gail, Don is survived by sons Heath and Nicholas, stepchildren David (Sally) Dulyea and Dianna (Rick) Hill, sister Deborah “Debbie” (Denny) Kittle, brother Robert (Judy) Coffey, grandchildren Todd (Katie) McNulty, Kayla Hill, and Jenna Hill, and great-granddaughter Faye McNulty. Don was predeceased by his brother William ”Bill” Coffey.

His family says, "While he may be gone, Don’s legacy endures through his family and many friends. The memories, stories, wisdom, humor, and experiences he provided to so many of us live on. The outpouring of love, support, condolences, kind gestures and words over his passing speak volumes to the sort of person he was, and how he touched the lives of so very many individuals in meaningful and lasting ways."

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to everyone who brought so much joy, meaning, laughter, enrichment, and love to Don’s life - and to theirs as well. A rich and fondly-remembered life is a lasting testament to it having been lived to its fullest. And Don - without question - certainly had that.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd in Rockton. Following the visitation, the family will host a luncheon from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Venetian Club, 2180 Elmwood Road in Rockford. In lieu of flowers, Don’s family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
